When you’re starting something new, it can be daunting, right? You’re busy surviving day to day tasks, juggling priorities, and reacting to the immediate business needs.

These day to day obstacles aren’t necessarily what’s going to get you to achieve greater success. In a quest to continue to grow as a leader, what recent challenge have you set for yourself?

Hence, Leader Focus Challenge: 5 to 10 a Day

Similar to taking baby steps to change a habit or start a new routine, we’re going to participate in a weekly challenge of taking 5 to 10 minutes a day to focus and grow.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Pick a Focus: A leadership topic, idea, or concept that you want to focus on for the week. If you’re at a loss for where to start, here is an article listing “101 Best Leadership Skills, Traits, and Qualities” to use as an idea generator!
  2. Learn/Practice: Spend 5 to 10 minutes a day during the workweek to learn and practice your focus challenge.
  3. At the end of the week, think of how you’ve applied what you’ve learned and how it’s improved your leadership capability.
  4. Share!

My Leader Focus Challenge for this week is “Listening.”

I have several new leaders in training and want to ensure that I am listening to them and those they are leading. I want to support their ideas, concerns, and help guide them as they manage their new environments.

My focus challenge is to further strengthen my listening skills, ask questions, gather feedback and share my findings with them to help them grow as leaders.

What is your Leader Focus Challenge this week? Share in comments below so we can all learn and grow through each other’s experiences!
